Os períodicos científicos constituem um dos meios mais tradicionais de comunicação científica.
Dentre as ferramentas identificadas, em acesso aberto, está o OJS (Open Journal Systems), que é um sistema voltado à editoração e publicação de revistas em meio digital. Amplamente utilizado no Brasil , o OJS foi traduzido como SEER (Sistema Eletrônico de Editoração de Revistas).
